My Picks For Christmas 2012

Christmas, along with all its celebrations and gift-giving, is around the corner. Which means that most makeup brands are now advertising their Holiday specials. I’ve tried my best to stay away from their luring adds, but still, as always, I find myself devoting a lot of time to dream-shopping. Here are a few of the items that come up recurrently on my mind. Most of them are actually not Christmas specials, but they are gorgeous all the same:

1. At the top of my list is Burberry Makeup and accessories. All of this comes from spending a lot of time mystified in front of the Burberry Youtube Channel watching and re-watching their makeup tutorials. It all looks so clean and simple and the result is always spectacular. Of course, it helps that they take one of the most fashionable models out there to have their makeup done. But still, it looks so luxurious and professional. My personal picks are first the new Complete Eye Palette, and more specifically # 01 Smokey Grey, then there is their “Fresh Glow” Luminous Fluid Base which looks fantastic (by the way, on one of the videos posted on their Youtube channel, the makeup artist uses it over eyeshadow to give a sheen to a normally matte eye. A must-try!). While I’m not a fan of dark lips, their “Lip Mist” Natural Sheer Lipstick in # 06 Blueberry is featured in one of the videos and, once again, I’m totally smitten. Finally, their # 09 Socket Line Brush seems to be a good staple to own for sheer, easy eye makeup.

2. Even though I’ve been using less nail polish lately, and kept my nails more or less au naturel, I still believe that no-one can ever own too many polishes. And it is especially true when it comes to polished loaded with sparkles! Now, some sparkly polished disappoint because they just don’t have enough shimmer/sparkles/base color in them. The Deborah Lippman ones, on the other hand, always look perfect on pictures. I’ve never owned any, and they don’t sell over here, but I’ve always been curious to try them. Who know, maybe after I’ve received some money at Christmas I’ll order one. The tricky part will be to choose between all the different colors. I’ve done my best to restrained myself and I’ve come up with 5 picks: “Let’s Go Crazy” (the purple one), “I Love the Nightlife” (the white one), “Boom Boom Pow” (the gold one), “Today Was a Fairytale” (the silver one), and “Cleopatra in New York” (the gold and black one).

Oh, and there is also the new Chanel nail polish 637 Malice in my picks. As you’ve seen before, I really love Chanel nail polishes in classic colors, because they apply really well and last a long time. This dark red is perfect for fall and winter and it is a color that never goes out of trend!

3. Last year, I went crazy for eyeshadow palettes. I got the Naked 2 palette, the Stilla Christmas palette and the Bobbi Brown shimmer block Christmas palette. This year, however, I don’t seem to find as many interesting ones as back then. When it comes strictly to Christmas, or at least winter collection palettes, I find myself luring on the new Dior Night Golds  (the one on the left). If I think about it, I probably already own similar colors, though… Then, there is another palette which is not new at all and which is not Christmassy-wintery either: the Estee Lauder Island Oasis Palette which dates back from a year and a half ago. It was a summer special, but it’s still available on some websites.

I can’t decide if I had too much last year, or if 2012 is just not a good year for Christmas palettes…

What about you, what’s on your list??

The Cure For Lipstick Virgins

Do you regularly moisturize your lips and really enjoy wearing clear or very sheer lip balm? Do you never wear too much color on your lips? Then, you are what I call a Lipstick Virgin.

But you don’t have to be afraid of color and shy away from more traditional lipsticks, thanks to the wonderful Clinique Almost Lipstick range. Trying them will let you get used to color and can help you in your apprenticeship of wearing a more colorful, grown-up lip. Plus, it will keep your lips moisturized thanks to its rich and comfortable texture. A real win-win!

Swatches of Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey and Luscious Honey.

I own two colors, Black Honey (left on picture) and Luscious Honey. Black Honey is a dark red with a berry-brown tone. Personally, I find it too brown for my fair skin. I don’t use it very often. The other one, Luscious Honey (right), I use a lot. It is a sheer red with cold, pink undertones. It is an easy way to get used to red lipstick progressively, or to wear a red hue during the day.

Swatches on my lips:

Black Honey – the flash makes it more red. In real life, it is browner.

Luscious Honey – the flash makes it look more pink. In reality, it is more of a sheer red.

Hope you enjoyed this review!

This Shampoo Is Awesome!

I’ve been using the La Grande Boucle Lush Shampoo, also known as Curly Wurly, for weeks now and I wonder why I’m talking about it only now… because it is great!

This shampoo is specially formulated for curly or wavy hair which need so special love in order to banish frizz and dryness. I have wavy hair and, to be honest, I can’t say that this shampoo has dramatically improved my waves and helped to define them. I generally don’t trust shampoos to do that, that’s the job of styling products. However, I can say truthfully that this shampoo is great to wash hair really well (no sticky residue left on the scalp… Moroccan Oil Volume Shampoo, I am talking of you…), while being non-aggressive.

I use it every other shampoo when I want to deep wash my scalp. I always follow with a conditioner to nourish my hair better but also because of… the flakes:

Now, as you can see on the picture, Curly Wurly is made with coconut flakes. Which is sometimes problematic: if you don’t brush your hair after rinsing the shampoo off, some flakes will remain in your hair… It hasn’t been much of a problem for me because I always condition and detangle my hair with a brush or a comb in the shower, and so either the brush chases the flakes away, or the water rinses it away when I get rid of my conditioner. However, I have seen on the Lush website that it drove some girls crazy.

Another problem with this shampoo: its smell. I know very many people just love the smell of coconut and other sweet foods in hair or body products. Lush is well-known for their sweet smelling ranges. But I really really dislike this kind of smells, and so I so much with this shampoo could smell differently. My sticking to it despite the smell (which I’m sure some of you will just adore) is yet another proof that it works really well.

What about you? What’s your favorite shampoo? And do you have Lush products you love?

Revlon Lip Butters!

About a year ago, everyone, all over the internet, began talking about Revlon Lip Butters. Bloggers were getting completely crazy over them. I was soon intrigued and bought my first two balms on Ebay. This Summer, when I was in America, I bought three more. That’s how much I love them! The first I got were Berry Smoothie and Peach Parfait. This Summer, I got Candy Apple, Sweet Tart and Tutti Frutti.

My Revlon Lip Butters: 015 Tutti Frutti, 025 Peach Parfait, 035 Candy Apple, 050 Berry Smoothie, 090 Sweet Tart.

Now, not all of these Lip Butters are created equal. Some are more pigmented, some have little shimmers in them. This makes for a very different application according to the color you’ll choose. Overall, they are a hybrid between a lip stick and a lip balm. This makes for an easy application, a nice sheen, minimal awkwardness from fading and still some good pigmentation. Here are my thoughts:

015 Tutti Frutti: This was THE color of this Summer! Orange was everywhere and this lip balm/lip stick really helped me rocking the trend without looking too weird. Because, you know, orange is not an easy color to wear. I really liked this balm which sometimes doubled as a blush, thought you must be aware that the blush effect if highly temporary: it rapidly fades on my skin. This balm is less pigmented than darker colors, which sometimes led to awkward streaks when I applied it directly from the bullet. I would definitely advice to tap it on the skin either from the bullet, or with your fingers.

025 Peach Parfait: Even though this is maybe the most talked about balm of the lot, being worn by Emma Stone on the Revlon adds, and being also worn by the actress in numerous premieres or photo shoots, this is the balm that has really disappointed me. It contains little shimmers, which make my lips drier and leads to awkward fading. The shimmers remain on my lips when the color and the sheen of the balm are gone, and it gets me crazy! Overall, I really didn’t like this balm, and I never wear it anymore.

035 Candy Apple: Hello bombshell! I love this balm so so much! For those of you who would like to wear red lipstick but are afraid to look weird, this is the one product to use! It is well pigmented when applied directly on the lips, but if you prefer a subtler effect, you can pat it on with your finger. It fades well, which is very important for me, because I don’t want to touch my lips up every 10 minutes. Overall, a real winner!

050 Berry Smoothie: A smart shade for fall and winter, Berry Smoothie is a cold dark pink. It is highly pigmented, and slightly less balmy than Candy Apple or Tutti Frutti. No particular problem with this one, but it’s not my favorite either.

090 Sweet Tart: The other treasure out of the whole range! This pink color is neither too light that it makes you look like a Barbie Doll, nor too flashy that it makes you conscientious. It looks fun, yet not too crazy. The heavy pigmentation and the super comfy texture give a beautiful result. Definitely one I’d repurchase!
